Scrap smart #1 electric car: collection, battery safety and valuation

Independent ONAGONE guide for Rotherham and surrounding South Yorkshire. The smart #1 is a battery-electric crossover; battery chemistry, driveline and vehicle mass may differ by version. Before requesting disposal of an electric vehicle, compare safe repair, sale for parts and specialist salvage against authorised end-of-life treatment.

Enter your smart #1 registration for an ONAGONE scrap-car assessment. Confirm the actual registration, postcode and condition in the form above. Submitting the request does not confirm a driver, collection date, price or acceptance.

What to check before collecting a smart #1

Electric vehicles may have electronic parking controls, vehicle-specific recovery procedures and a traction battery below the passenger area. Describe the exact physical state of your #1 rather than relying on a generic roadside towing method.

  • Check whether the #1 is a rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive variant where known.
  • Describe wheel, suspension or underfloor damage and whether the electronic brake is locked.
  • Disclose charging-related faults and any exposure to fire or flooding; do not attempt high-voltage repairs.
  • Tell ONAGONE whether the car has its keys, charge cable, wheels, doors and documents, and whether it is parked in a garage, on a sloping driveway or in a restricted area.

High-voltage safety: damaged or flooded electric cars

Do not disconnect, open, cut or dismantle high-voltage components, charging connections or traction battery housings. An EV with a damaged battery, signs of heating, smoke, flooding or recent fire may need isolation and a specialist response. If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger, stay clear and call 999. Do not attempt to move or charge the vehicle yourself if a high-voltage fault is suspected.

For a non-emergency collection assessment, report visible battery or underfloor impact, warning lights, water damage, known repair history and any unusual heat, smell or noise. ONAGONE must confirm that appropriate loading and downstream handling are available before it can agree a job. Environment Agency guidance requires EV high-voltage systems to be made safe using competent, manufacturer-specific procedures before standard end-of-life processing.

Repair, salvage or end-of-life disposal?

A compact electric crossover should be assessed for a repairable sale or safe EV salvage where appropriate. An EV's traction battery and other components should not be assumed to have a fixed resale or scrap value. Actual value depends on verified ownership, battery condition, safety status, completeness, recovery access and the lawful treatment route. Where sensible, request an independent repair or salvage opinion before deciding to scrap it.

How ONAGONE handles a smart #1 enquiry

  1. Enter the registration into the quote form above and check the returned make and model. If vehicle identification is incomplete, provide the exact electric variant and year.
  2. Disclose all collision, flooding, fire and battery concerns, the ability to release the parking brake, missing keys and whether each wheel can roll.
  3. Give collection postcode, access restrictions and any available photographs. A specialist operator may have to check equipment ratings, the correct transportation method or the receiving facility's EV capabilities.
  4. After assessment, ONAGONE will confirm whether collection is suitable and agree the offer and arrangements. Do not assume that submitting a form is acceptance of the job.

smart #1 scrap and recovery questions

Can a smart #1 be moved using a conventional tow rope?

Do not improvise a drivetrain tow. Follow the smart vehicle-specific instructions and agree suitable transport.

Are all smart #1 battery packs identical?

No. Battery configurations vary between versions; confirm the registration and variant rather than assuming a fixed specification.

Can I scrap my smart #1 without a V5C?

Explain the missing logbook and provide proof of authority to dispose. Read ONAGONE's no-logbook guide. The exact DVLA notification depends on whether the car is sold for reuse or genuinely scrapped.

Who issues the Certificate of Destruction?

For qualifying end-of-life scrapping, the receiving authorised treatment facility (ATF) handles the prescribed disposal and documentation. Confirm that it is equipped and authorised to treat an EV, and retain the appropriate records. Official DVLA scrapping guidance explains the legal process.
