Scrap car paperwork and collection checklist
Get ready for scrap car collection without uploading personal documents. Keep your available vehicle paperwork and identification ready to show in person.
Before collection day
- Locate your V5C logbook if you have it, together with the vehicle keys.
- Tell us if the logbook is missing, the details have changed or you are acting for the owner.
- Confirm the identification and supporting documents needed when arrangements are agreed.
- Remove personal belongings and check the glovebox, boot and door pockets.
- Remove saved personal information from the car's devices if you can do so safely.
Keeping a private registration?
Complete the DVLA process to retain it before the vehicle is scrapped. See the official scrapping checklist.
Logbook and DVLA notification
Follow the current GOV.UK instructions for handing over the V5C and notifying DVLA. Keep your transfer details and confirmation. If you do not have the logbook, raise this before collection so the correct next steps can be confirmed.
Why identification matters
Scrap dealers must verify the seller's name and address. A passport does not show your residential address, so it may need a separate supporting address document. Confirm which original documents will be accepted before collection; uploading a photograph is not part of our website process.
Read the Home Office identity-check guidance. Guidance checked on 29 September 2026.
At handover
Check the agreed price and payment arrangements, confirm who is taking the vehicle and keep the collection details. Ask who will issue any disposal paperwork and how you will receive it.
