Car Recovery From Home or a Driveway

Car Recovery From Home or a Driveway

A vehicle does not have to break down at the roadside to need recovery. Cars that will not start, have mechanical faults, have been standing for a long period or need moving for repair can often require collection from a home address or driveway.

What we need to know

Provide the vehicle registration, collection postcode, destination and a clear description of the vehicle condition. Tell us whether it starts, rolls, steers and brakes, and whether keys are available.

Driveway and access considerations

Access can affect whether a vehicle is straightforward to collect. Tell us about narrow entrances, gates, steep drives, parked vehicles, restricted turning space or anything else that could affect positioning and loading. Do not assume a recovery vehicle can enter every driveway.

Where can the vehicle go?

A home collection can be requested for transport to a garage, workshop, storage address or another suitable destination. If the vehicle is being moved for repair, see car recovery to a garage.

Vehicle will not roll?

If keys are missing, see vehicle recovery with no keys. If brakes or wheels are locked, see recovery with seized brakes or wheels. These conditions should be disclosed before the job is accepted.
