Vehicle Recovery From Tight or Difficult Access

Vehicle Recovery From Tight or Difficult Access

Not every vehicle is parked somewhere a recovery vehicle can easily reach. Narrow streets, underground or multi-storey car parks, tight driveways, low entrances, blocked access and awkward vehicle positions can all change what is practical.

Tell us about access before the job

Do not submit only the postcode if the vehicle is in a difficult position. Describe where it is parked and any restrictions that could affect approach, turning or loading. Photos of the vehicle and surrounding access can be particularly useful.

Useful details to provide

  • Approximate entrance height where relevant.
  • Narrow gates or width restrictions.
  • Steep ramps or gradients.
  • Whether another vehicle blocks access.
  • Whether the vehicle rolls and steers.
  • Whether keys are available.
  • Whether there is space in front of or behind the vehicle.

Underground and multi-storey car parks

Height limits and confined ramps can prevent normal recovery equipment reaching a vehicle directly. Each situation needs assessment; submitting the access details does not guarantee that a collection is possible.

Other difficult vehicle conditions

See recovery with no keys and recovery with seized brakes or wheels where the vehicle itself also creates loading difficulties. For general non-runners, see non-runner vehicle transport.
