Windscreen VIN damaged or missing?
A VIN visible through the windscreen is convenient for identification, but damage to the windscreen area does not by itself mean the vehicle has lost its identity. Vehicles can have identifiers in other manufacturer-defined locations.
After a collision or windscreen replacement
Glass damage and repairs can affect what is visible. Compare available vehicle details and paperwork rather than guessing or creating replacement identity information for the purpose of a collection.
Scrap and recovery
If a scrap vehicle's visible VIN cannot be checked, tell the collector before handover. If an accident-damaged vehicle is being transported, provide registration, make, model, condition and any release information available.
