Scrap Car Collection Checklist: ID, VIN, Condition and Payment
Share
Scrap-car collection checklist before the vehicle leaves
A good scrap-car collection should establish who is supplying the vehicle, which vehicle is being collected, its condition and where it is going before it is loaded.
Vehicle details
- Registration, make and model.
- Available VIN information where appropriate.
- Whether keys are present.
- Whether the vehicle rolls, steers and brakes.
- Any missing wheels, major parts or accident damage.
Supplier and authority
The supplier's identity must be dealt with in accordance with scrap-metal rules, and the collector should be satisfied that the person has authority to dispose of the vehicle. Possession of keys or a V5C should not be treated as the only check in unusual circumstances.
Payment and destination
Cash payment for scrap vehicles is prohibited in England and Wales. End-of-life vehicles must ultimately be treated through an authorised treatment facility. Where a qualifying vehicle is completely scrapped, the ATF handles the Certificate of Destruction process.
