Thief

Designed by William Morris in 1883, Strawberry Thief is widely considered his most famous and recognizable design. The pattern was born from a moment of personal observation at Morris’s country home, Kelmscott Manor, where he watched garden thrushes cheekily darting under the fruit nets to steal strawberries. This "fleeting moment" of nature was transformed into a masterpiece of the Arts and Crafts movement, capturing the drama and mystery of the natural world.

The design is celebrated for its exquisite symmetry and intricate layering. It features a dense, rhythmic composition of birds, luscious berries, and swirling foliage that creates a rich, three-dimensional effect on the wall. Originally a complex fabric that took days to print using the painstaking "indigo-discharge" method, the pattern has transitioned into an iconic wallpaper that offers both heritage charm and sophisticated depth. Whether used to create a bold feature wall or a full-room wrap-around, Strawberry Thief remains a timeless symbol of Morris's dedication to craftsmanship.
