Can a Recovery Truck Collect a Car From Home or a Garage?

Vehicle recovery is not limited to roadside breakdowns. A vehicle may need collecting from a driveway, garage, workshop, storage site or another private location because it will not start, is unsafe to drive or simply needs transporting.

What matters before collection?

The recovery operator needs enough information to judge access and loading. Useful details include whether the vehicle starts, rolls and steers, whether the keys are available, whether tyres are inflated and whether the vehicle is blocked in.

Home collections

For a home collection, mention narrow roads, gates, steep drives, low trees or parked vehicles that could affect access. The collection point should be somewhere the recovery vehicle can approach and load safely.

Garage and workshop collections

If a garage is releasing the vehicle, make sure the collection arrangements and opening times are agreed with the site. Tell the recovery operator about any known mechanical or accident damage before arrival.
